Democratic Congressman Raul Grijalva looks to have smooth sailing to his fourth term in Congressional District 7, where Democrats have a nearly 2-to-1 registration advantage over Republicans.
Nonetheless, two Republicans are battling for the chance to take on Grijalva: perennial candidate Joe Sweeney, whose whacked-out racist and anti-Semitic rants have the local GOP wishing he’d just go away, and Gene Chewning, a local preacher who was clobbered in a 2006 campaign for the Arizona Legislature.
Congressional District 7 is home to roughly 134,300 Democrats, 72,000 Republicans, 2,200 Libertarians and 85,400 voters who aren’t affiliated with any of those parties.
